Spring Cleaning Your Jewelry Box

Spring is in the air! Often when we think of Spring cleaning we think of cleaning out our cabinets, drawers, closets, and garages for a clean start after a long winter. And just like cleaning your home, cleaning out your jewelry box will leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the new season. Here at James & Sons, we offer jewelry cleanings & inspections, so here are some helpful tips for you to get started.

Find and remove all jewelry from the jewelry box

Before you get started, you'll need to collect all your jewelry from the different places you may store it. Whether it’s kept in a jewelry box, on a trinket tray, or temporarily placed in your purse. 

Edit and sort your jewelry collection

Take inventory of what you want and what you don't. Sometimes it helps to determine what’s in style and what’s not, and if you want to keep certain pieces. Some jewelry may have sentimental value even if it’s out of style, so keep that in mind when deciding. 

Some of the jewelry in your collection may vary when it comes to quality depending on the metal, designer, and style. 

Once this is completed, make a pile of unwanted jewelry, separate from what you plan to keep. 

Decide what needs cleaning/repairs

Is your jewelry tarnishing? Are the diamonds not as radiant? Or perhaps there are loose gems? Set these items aside and plan to bring them in for cleaning and inspection.

Clean the jewelry box and organize

Now that you’ve organized your jewelry, it’s time to clean the jewelry box itself. Jewelry boxes can get dusty, so be sure to clean off any dust. If you don’t have a jewelry box, it might be time to invest in one, as leaving certain jewelry out in the open may result in tarnishing. 

Sell, appraise, clean, refresh
