About Roger Dery
Holistic Sourcing
Roger Dery values supporting local communities by purchasing directly from the mines. They travel to mines in East Africa, purchasing rough gems that they eventually craft into beautiful jewels. After each gem is bought, Roger Dery contributes to Gem Legacy, a nonprofit dedicated to aiding East African communities.
Precision Faceting
Roger Dery polishes their gems at such a high level that they are four times finer than the industry standard.
One Of A Kind
Each gemstone is unique in shape and characteristics, so Roger Dery considered this when designing the end result for a gem. This makes each gem reach its full potential and each is one of a kind. The natural shape of a rough stone helps determine how it will be cut, whether it will be a round cut, emerald, oval, or any other shape possible.
How Gems Are Valued
Beauty
The exquisite beauty of a gemstone, characterized by its captivating color, clarity, and brilliance, directly influences its market value and desirability among collectors and enthusiasts.
Rarity
The rarity of a gemstone significantly influences its value. Gems that are scarce or found in limited quantities are generally more valuable.
Durability
Gemstone durability refers to their ability to resist scratching, chipping, and breaking, which impacts their longevity and value. The Mohs hardness scale measures this quality, with diamonds (hardness of 10) being highly durable. Toughness and stability are also considered, as durable gemstones like diamonds and sapphires are preferred for jewelry due to their resistance to wear and environmental factors, contributing to their lasting beauty and value.
