James and sons is proud to own a laser welding machine. This is a hi-tech machine used by jewelers instead of a torch. A torch uses a high heat flame to join metal together and is safe in over 90% of jewelry procedures. A torch uses heat and heat can be harmful to fragile stones. If a fragile stone, like an emerald, is close to the repair point there is a very likely chance that the stone will crack or become damaged. A laser machine joins two metals together without using heat, instead, a focused light beam that melts a very small area of metal. The benefit is there is very little heat generated at the melt point, allowing the jeweler to weld within ½ to 1 mm of heat sensitive areas. On most all items you will not be able to tell where a piece of jewelry has been repaired. Laser welding is the only way to preserve an antique piece of jewelry and its value.

Working closely with customers we adhere to a strict policy of treating every piece of jewelry with care and respect.
