A true diamond contains no color. These stones rate high in value and are extremely rare. The color of this stone is rated on a scale, which ranges from D (colorless) to Z. Another important factor to consider, when choosing the ring, is the clarity of the stone. Clarity measures “inclusions” found within the stone, which are minerals, or fractures that may have been obtained, while the gem was in its natural state. Many of these “inclusions” look like tiny crystals, feathers, or clouds underneath a microscope. There is a scale, which can rate the clarity of a diamond from F (flawless) to I (Included). Very few stones are flawless. Most have some type of naturally occurring “inclusion” in them from the surrounding earth.
The carat weight also plays an important role, when it comes to finding out the value of the stone. This refers to the weight of a diamond. Larger carat stones are worth a lot more than those that contain a lower carat weight. This is because heavier stones are much harder to find compared to their lower weight counterparts.
